As you grow older your metabolism tends to slow down. With your lifestyle in status quo notwithstanding the aging factor, you have a strong tendency to gain weight. We almost accept this as a fact of life. Unlike in your younger years, you now become more susceptible to health related issues and over weight issue.
The good news is that you can fight aging and you can stay fit for life. You just have to learn what you need to do to get fit and stay fit. It really is nothing too major. You only need to tweak some changes in your lifestyle so that your young body during your 20's can cope with your routine in your 40's, 50's and even 60's.
Healthy Habits
Practicing a set of good health habits is the first step to stay fit in life. You should stay away from your bad health habits and start the new one. Here are some suggestions:

* drink moderately
* take a walk instead of driving your car
* take the stairs instead of relying on the lift
* shy away from eating fatty foods

In order to get your body in better shape you need to know your body. Once you start exercising, you will come to find out things you didn't know about your body. You will come to realize how fit you can be.
You want to learn about your cardio health, how strong you are and what you can do to keep yourself motivated. You need to find out what areas need work and then work at them.
Importance of Exercise
Exercise is going to be a large part of staying fit. You have to keep at it. In the beginning it may not be an easy task to get the momentum going. It is easy to say you do not have time. But you have to find time. Keep your eyes on the goal and stay motivated.
You should aim to workout at least three times per week. You should also get in at least two days of strength training. Monitor closely your exercise sessions ensuring that you are in the right track.
