Preparing For The Sudden PageRank Drop

By: RingJohn

Every Google update, you will hear a lot of webmasters complain that their website’s PageRank dropped. Some drops by at least two ranks. This is frustrating especially when there is nothing in the web that you aim for than to get higher PageRank. Google ranks all the pages available on the web using a scale of 0-10. The highest your web pages’ ranks are, the better.

Because PageRank contributes to the ranking of the website on the search results, almost all webmasters are striving hard to achieve a higher PageRank. What would you do when you have already done all that you can to reach your current PageRank and all of a sudden you are affected by the unenviable PageRank drop? It can be so frustrating.

Webmasters who suffer from PageRank drop perhaps need a little reminder. PageRank can be avoided. Why do you have to avoid it? Along with PageRank drop is the traffic and sales drop. These might remind you a little about how to avoid PageRank drop:

  • The search engines are the primary sources of traffic but they are not the sole source. So to avoid being so frustrated with the sudden drop of PageRank, you must be marketing your website on other sources of traffic as well.

  • Always encourage referrals. This way, your potential customers will still visit your website even if does not appear on the top of the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).

  • Optimise your website’s domain name. As much as possible, the domain name must be catchy but at the same time easy to remember. This way, your potential customers will remember your domain name and enter it on the URL box rather than searching for your business on the search engines.

  • Consider marketing your website offline. This will help in branding your business’ name. People, especially your target market, will become familiar with your business.

  • Protect your PageRank. Don’t get involved in black hat linking techniques or black hat SEO techniques. Always use search engine friendly strategies to ensure that you don’t trigger a penalty from the search engines.

  • Get quality incoming links. These links will drive more traffic to your website.

Even if you don’t intend to, you might trigger a penalty from Google. So it pays to be always prepared. It is easier to combat PageRank drop when you are ready.
